Janet R. Klug (1950-2023)
Posted today on the American Philatelic Society FB account: The APS is saddened to report the loss of past president, Janet R. Klug. Our thoughts are with her loving husband, Russ, and all those touched by Janet.
Janet R. Klug was a philatelist since childhood, a keen author and columnist, distinguished collector and exhibitor, specialising in Tonga, Samoa, Malaya and Japan under Australian occupation. According to the Smithsonian website, she once wrote: “History is not just about famous people and events. It also encompasses ordinary people doing ordinary things, overcoming the challenges that happen in their lives, surviving and thriving”.
She served organised philately from a lot of different positions. She was elected President of the American Philatelic Society (2003-2007), appointed member of the U.S. Postal Service Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee (2010-2014) and named chair (2014-2019). Among her awards were the APS Writers Unit Hall of Fame (2010), the Luff Award for Outstanding Service to the APS (2014) and the Smithsonian Philatelic Achievement Award (2019).
