BALKANFILA XIX Catalogue and Palmares booklet
Balkanfila XIX was held in Belgrade from 12 to 14 October 2023 with the participation of 12 Balkan countries and Hungary as a guest country. The nineteenth edition of this significant regional philatelic exhibition in South-East Europe, seven years after the one held in Tirana in 2016, was organised by the Union of Philatelists of Serbia under the patronage of Mr Aleksandar Vucic, President of Serbia, while it was sponsored by the International Philatelic Federation (FIP) and the Serbian Post.
The exhibits were presented in approximately 600 frames at the Central Military Club. The location of the Club was in the city centre, a stone’s throw from Democracy Square, the National Museum and the Opera House. The hotels that accommodated foreign visitors were only a few minutes’ pleasant walk away. The single exhibition hall that hosted all the exhibits had adequate lighting and the continuous and efficient support of the organisers contributed significantly to the success of a pleasant philatelic experience. The exhibits were of both national and international interest with significant attendance since there was wide coverage of the exhibition by the local media.
Jury President was Nikola Ljubicic, and Jury Secretary was Vladimir Milic. The GP winner was decided by the Jury President’s vote, after a 5-5 tie between the final winner Joseph Hackmey (Turkey) with his “Ottoman Post Offices in the former FPR of Yugoslavia” and George Mylonogiannis (Greece) with his “The Greek Pre-adhesive Period”.
