Youth Philately is alive and kicking
We are pleased to report on interesting developments in Youth Philately in the UK and Germany.
From London John Davies reports that a new ‘Youth Zone’ was launched by the Stamp Active Network at Autumn Stampex, held from 29th September – 2nd October. The theme of Stamp Active’s activities was Birds and there were also features on Postcrossing and StampIT. World Postcard Day was celebrated on 1st October with a talk by the RPSL President, Peter Cockburn.
Young collectors could find stamps on Birds and complete other challenges to win points that could be exchanged for prizes or used at the free children’s auction on Saturday. Once again the auction was highly popular with lively bidding for the most attractive items.
At the end of the auction there was a free prize for a Penny Black, donated by Robin Cassell of Mulready Philatelics. The winner was Micah McCaulay, aged 6, from London (above). Due to restrictions on school stamp clubs during the pandemic there were no youth competitions on this occasion. They will restart in 2022.
From Germany Dittmar Wöhlert of the DPhJ e.V. has sent us a press release on the latest issue of Junge Sammler (3/21).
The main theme is ‘Water’ with articles on many different aspects of this vital commodity. It also includes articles on the Mauritius ‘Ball Invitation’ covers, Indian postal stationery and New Zealand’s ‘Lord of the Rings’ issue as well as a quiz and many other topics including how to make your own Christmas mail.
The press release is at 2021-10-26_JUNGE SAMMLER 3_2021_with pictures_E
