FD Trbovlje has operated continuously since its establishment in 1949 in a small coal-mining town. Through its activities, it offers opportunities to engage with philately both in its specialised form and in its broader cultural context, not only for its members but also for the wider Trbovlje community.
What particularly distinguishes the Society is its regular organisation of inter-societal philatelic exhibitions for adults (FIMERA) and for youth (FIRAMLA). Held every two years since 1997, these exhibitions effectively function as national exhibitions, given the country’s small size. For each exhibition, an appropriate catalogue is produced, often supplemented with professional philatelic articles. The Society’s members consistently achieve strong results at domestic exhibitions and are well regarded for their work with youth. In addition, the Society publishes a semi-annual philatelic bulletin for its members and the wider philatelic community.
The Society has served three terms on the Board of the Slovenian Philatelic Association, with its President, Robert Jordan, holding the positions of Treasurer and Secretary. It is also distinguished by its responsibility for the operation of the Philatelic Association of Slovenia, as well as by its regular voluntary work in organising regional exhibitions in Slovenia and setting up exhibition frames, a task requiring particular care and expertise.
