FEPA Certificate of Appreciation 2022
Uddingston Stamp and Postcard Group (United Kingdom)
This group was established in October 2009. Since then, it has increased attendance substantially from an initial number of 15. Despite Covid and ageing participants, the meetings continue to be very popular. Philately has always been a longstanding hobby with the current older age group. Contrary to perception, many younger participants, particularly in Asia, have a healthy appetite for collecting topical themes such as wildlife, transport, sport etc. The group at Uddingston meets throughout the year and has no age barrier, so younger members in the holiday periods can always be encouraged to attend. Interest also in social and local history, genealogy and popular themes like railways, royalty etc., has increased the focus on postcards where picture, postmark and message can inspire research and memory – a helpful stimulus against loneliness and dementia. The more informal and varied the group meeting can be means it is more attractive to the participants. It is a place to meet, interact, chat and make new friends.
