Being the president of the FIP Commission for Thematic Philately from 1977 to 2004, he is rightly considered the father of Thematics in its modern conception. With countless contributions as an ambassador of philately to the general public, a columnist or speaker at seminars and conferences, and an artist of writing regulations, and guidelines, he pursued the improvement of organised philately, with an eye towards the future. He was a pioneer in the use of information technology in philatelic exhibitions.
The Real Academia Hispánica de Filatelia e Historia Postal (Royal Hispanic Academy of Philately and Postal History) is the most prestigious philatelic institution in Spanish-speaking countries. Its objectives are research, study and promotion of everything related to philately and the postal history of Spain, its former possessions, dependencies, and protectorates. It has a maximum number of only 50 Full Academicians (https://www.rahf.es/academicos-de-numero), while the number of Corresponding Academiciens is unlimited (https://www.rahf.es/academicos-correspondientes).
The general assembly held in Madrid on 8 March was chaired by its President, Eduardo Consejo, Vice-president, Fernando Aranaz, and Secretary José Manuel Rodríguez. The Academy’s activities in 2023 were reviewed. In total, 34 conferences were given by Academy members throughout 2023, in various events held in Madrid, Teruel, Montevideo, Barcelona, and Milan. Major activities planned for 2024 are:
– Extraordinary Academic Session at the Naval Museum, Madrid, 15 June.
– Academic Session at EXFILNA 2024, Valladolid, 4 October.
– Ordinary Academic Session, Madrid, 16 November.
By secret vote, the following candidates were elected:
(a) Numerary Academicians (Académicos de Número). Numerus clausus limited to 50: Walter Britz, and Julio César Ponce Lozada. The two will be considered provisionally “Elected Academicians” until they present their discourses.
(b) Corresponding Academicians (Académicos Correspondientes). Unlimited number: Rafael Acuña Castillo, Miguel José Casielles, Marcelino González Fernandez, Reinaldo Estevâo de Macedo, Carlos Malpica Lizarzaburu, and Aldo L. Samamé y Samamé.
The Academicians Juan Antonio Llácer, and Raimundo Almeda who had been elected Numerary Academicians (Académicos de Número) in past years and were provisionally “Elected Academicians”, presented their discourses and so entered into the list of Numerary Academicians (Académicos de Número).

From 7 to 9 June, The Trade Mart in Brussels will house the Belgian biannual national competitive exhibition. The French, Dutch and Luxemburg federations have accepted the invitation to participate in this philatelic event. Each foreign country will also provide one jury member.
In total 470 frames will show all disciplines, including the champion class. Also, the Belgian Philatelic Academy will participate with 30 frames. The Belgian postal administration will offer in presale four new stamp issues.

Giancarlo Morolli honoured in Lavagna
We’ve picked it up from Vaccari News: Giancarlo Morolli was honoured today in Lavagna (Genoa) with the City of Lavagna Philatelic Award.
Giancarlo is currently Vice-President of the Federation of European Philatelic Associations (FEPA), FSFI delegate for international affairs, national representative of the Royal Philatelic Society London, counsellor of the Italian Union of Philatelic Press, and an FIP juror for over fifty years. In 1989 his name was included in the Albo d’oro della philatelic italiana, and in 2010 he was invited to sign the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists.
