Serbia’s first on-line exhibition will take place in December 2020

The Organising Committee of SOFIZ 1, Serbia’s first-ever on-line exhibition, have sent us the following message:

It’s a great pleasure to announce that SOFIZ I, the first Serbian national online stamp exhibition with international participation will be held in the period

7th of December 2020. – 14th of December 2020.

on the official web site of Union of Philatelists of Serbia, philaserbia.com .

Participation is invited from exhibitors in both Serbia and other countries. The exhibition will have 12 competitive classes with 1 frame, 5 frame and 8 frame exhibits invited.

Exhibits must relate to themes related to West Balkan philately except in the Thematic, Maximaphily and Youth classes.

They must also be in Serbian or another of the former Yugoslav languages, or in an official FIP language.

Applications must be registered by 15 October 2020

FEPA Medals for 2019 are presented

After a long delay due to COVID cancellations, two of the 2019 FEPA Medals have been presented to the recipients.

The winner of the FEPA Medal for Exceptional Service to organised philately is Chris King RDP, Hon FRPSL and the presentation was made by FEPA President Bill Hedley at the Annual General Meeting of the Royal Philatelic Society in London on 16 September 2020.

The winner of the FEPA Medal for exceptional support to organised philately is Senator Carlo Giovanardi, Member of the Italian Parliament (1992-2018), past Minister and Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies. The presentation was made at a welcome dinner held in Trieste on 25 September 2020 for the XVIII Postal History Colloquium organised by the Istituto di studi storici postali “Aldo Cecchi” and the Associazione italiana di storia postale. The medal was presented by Bruno Crevato-Selvaggi, Vice President of the Italian Federation.

The winner of the 2019 FEPA Medal for exceptional philatelic study and research is Prof. Dr Henrik Mouritsen.

We have not yet been able to present him with his FEPA Medal formally because of the cancellation of all major events, but we will do so at the earliest suitable opportunity.

Virtual events in USA and Germany win high marks from philatelists

During the summer the American Philatelic Society (APS) staged a virtual Stamp Show with a full range of activities on offer on-line. Other organisations including the FIP, the Bund Deutscher Philatelisten e. V. and the Royal Philatelic Society London also organised programmes of on-line presentations.

The APS and the BDPh have published the results of surveys they conducted among visitors to their events, and both report remarkably high levels of satisfaction. In both surveys more than 80% of responders were satisfied or very satisfied with the on-line initiatives and almost everyone wanted them to be repeated. Given that these events were planned and delivered at very short notice, these ratings are a great compliment to the Organisers. They also suggest that collectors have adapted rapidly to the on-line environment and that there will be a continuing demand for this service.
