The Library was established in 1971 when several Hamburg stamp associations and the “Schleswig-Holstein Postal History and Philately” working group joined their literature holdings. Today the Hamburg Philatelic Library with its counterparts in Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt and Wuppertal set up a unparalleled network of philatelic libraries in Germany.
According to the Library’s website the collection currently contains around 26,000 volumes and over 65,000 articles. Since the beginning of April 2016, the entire inventory can be accessed in its online catalogue. The visitor to the catalogue can also find a record of the articles entered from previous specialist journals.
