Unprecedented media coverage and large crowds were reported in TAIPEI 2023 – 39th Asian International Stamp Exhibition (11-15 August). Tony Shields (Shields Stamps, Melbourne, Australia) posted on his Facebook page that “The final attendance at the stamp exhibition was 330,000 people. Total cost of the show was nearly A$2,000,000 which was mostly paid by Taiwan Post Office, and their sales were A$5,000,000 at the exhibition. What a stunning set of figures.”
The exhibition was announced in 2018, originally scheduled for 2020. It was postponed to 2021, again to 2022, and finally to 2023, all because of Covid-19. Naturally, it was eagerly anticipated by the local philatelic community.
The Swedish Philatelic Federation reports that an Audrey Hepburn stamp will be on display at TRELLEBORG 2023, the Swedish-German bilateral exhibition, which will take place from 15 to 17 September.
The Hepburn stamp is on loan from the current owner through Heinrich Köhler GmbH, who also sold that particular stamp in 2005 for € 58,000.
The Turkish Philatelic Federation is organising the International Stamp Exhibition Ankara’23, on the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Republic of Turkey. The Turkish Postal Administration is the main sponsor of the event. Ankara’23 will be held at Ulucanlar Prison Museum & Cultural Centre, in Ankara, under FEPA Recognition.
The national part of the Exhibition is expected to cover 500 frames, between 20 and 30 October 2023. During the last four days, 27-30 October, another 250-300 frames will be added for international participation. The international part of the exhibition will include the countries that separated from the Ottoman Empire or the countries that had postal organisations within the Ottoman Empire during that period. The exhibits’ themes must be associated with the Ottoman Empire, the Turkish War of Independence, the Republic of Turkey, Levant posts, military postal services in World War I, wars before or after WWI in the region (Balkan and independent wars and so on), maritime, air and train posts of those states, which separated from the Ottoman Empire, and specific to this region and period.
