A new book by Jesús Sitjà Prats was recently published by the Real Academia Hispanica de Filatelia e Historica Postal (Royal Spanish Academy of Philately and Postal History). The bilingual 236-page book carries the title The Mail Of The Spanish Ship Register Envelopes (1778-1853) in English, and El Correo De Los Sobres De Registro De Embarque (1778-1853) in Spanish. It is part of RAHFeHP Specialised Library as Vol. XV.
The RAHFeHP Member D. José Antonio Herráiz Gracia notes in the preface that, during the review process prior to publication, the author found it necessary to compile the legislation in force, filling in any remaining gaps in knowledge, particularly regarding the registration of vessels operating between mainland Spanish ports.
Once a solid foundation was established, the subject matter was developed in an orderly and coherent manner. Noteworthy is the meticulous study and classification of the various types of vessels that sailed the seas—an element of great interest in understanding the services they provided. Additionally, the chronological and geographical criteria have been skilfully combined, ensuring easy comprehension for less-experienced and advanced readers alike.
Moreover, when we add the excellent quality and variety of accompanying illustrations—some of which include iconic pieces from Spanish postal history—the result is a perfect combination that truly qualifies as a reference book. Undoubtedly, it will remain relevant for a long time, helping collectors to correctly interpret their pieces (for those fortunate enough to own them) and allowing all readers to gain a deeper understanding of this chapter in our postal history.

Instead of an annual lecture, this year the Stuart Rossiter Trust is hosting a Seminar on “What is Postal History?”. An all-day event, it will feature presentations and discussions from a team of six well-known specialist speakers with divergent views on a variety of aspects.
It will take place on Wednesday, 24 September 2025, at the Royal Philatelic Society, London (15 Abchurch Lane, London, EC4N 7BW). Attendance is free and light refreshments will be served. Space is limited, however, so you are advised to email srtcorr@gmail.com to reserve your seat. Further details will be announced later.
The Stuart Rossiter Trust Fund is a Charitable Trust supporting research and publication relating to the history of communication through postal systems of the world.
To date, the Trust has published 52 books on Postal History, and funded 29 research projects. It has also hosted 25 annual Lectures.
Hotel reservations have opened for Boston 2026 World Expo, taking place in fourteen months.
Eight official show hotels have been selected from throughout the Boston Seaport district representing Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott, Omni and Yotel chains. All are three or four-star rated, fully wheelchair-accessible and within walking distance of the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. The show headquarters hotel, the Westin Boston Seaport District, and the Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport, are physically attached to the center itself.
Reservations are being accepted for check-ins a few days before the show’s opening, during, and a few days after the close from Tuesday, May 19 through Monday, June 1.
Per night room rates run from $229 to $333. Rates shown are for single/double occupancy. Triple and quad occupancy is available at some show hotels. These discounted prices are only available by making reservations through the Boston 2026 web site link to onPeak, the show’s contracted housing management firm. Negotiations continue to add one or two properties to the list outside of the city center. These, too, will be found on the Boston2026.org hotel page when confirmed.
Hotel rooms are offered on a first-come basis with no guarantee that additional room blocks will be released once full. In all cases a credit card or check deposit of one night’s stay is required. Reservations must be cancelled 72 hours prior to the day of arrival to avoid a late cancellation fee of one night’s room and tax.
Boston 2026 World Expo takes place May 23-30, 2026, at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. Full show details may be found at Boston2026.org and on X and Facebook. Sign up to be added to the Boston 2026 email list and receive updates when available.
