The last event in the 2023 calendar of Italian national exhibitions was BERGAMOFIL 2023, which took place from 29th September to 1st October under the patronage of FSFI. Over the last few years, Bergamofil has become a traditional appointment, also thanks to the key role played by the organising society, the Circolo Filatelico Bergamasco, which for its activity had been awarded the FEPA certificate of appreciation in 2015 and the Golden Roll of Italian philately in 2021.
The exhibition was held in Chiuduno, about 20 km from Bergamo, and it included the classes of postal history, postal stationery and traditional philately. The scans of all the exhibits are available on the exhibition website: http://expo.fsfi.it/index.php?CodiceExpo=Bergamofil2023&Ambito=USER.
Renewing a long tradition of friendship and collaboration, the FESOFI – Federación Española de Sociedades Filatélicas was invited to Bergamofil 2023, where it was represented by commissioner José-Pedro Gómez-Agüero. The jury included Bruno Crevato-Selvaggi (president), José-Pedro Gómez-Agüero (vice-president), and Franco Giannini, Giorgio Khouzam and Luca Lavagnino (members), the latter acting also as the FSFI commissioner.
The highest award in the Championship section was awarded to Flavio Pini for the exhibit “Interi postali con tassello pubblicitario 1919-1925” (postal stationery). The competition Grand Prix went to Eugenio De Quesada for “El correo sin Correos en España, siglos XV a XIX. Cartas de fraude y fuera de valija” (postal history). The other main awards went to Pasquale Piccirillo (best in class in traditional philately – “Domini al di qua del faro: da Ferdinando II a Vittorio Emanuele II 1858-1861), Fabio Petrini (best in class in postal stationery – “Dalla Luogotenenza alla Repubblica (Democratica) – Usi delle cartoline postali”) and Angelo Teruzzi (best in class in postal history – “The foreign mail in the Papal States 1852-1870”). Marco Panza received the special prize presented by the FESOFI for “The Postal Rates and the franking system in the Napoleonic Kingdom of Italy 1805 – 1814”. Overall, it was a very high-level exhibition: 21 large gold medals and 11 gold medals were awarded.
Next year, BERGAMOFIL 2024 is waiting for us.

The 26th ALPE-ADRIA philatelic exhibition, “Tarvisio 2023”, was held from 21 to 24 September 2023, with 99 exhibits presented by 89 exhibitors belonging to the seven members of the Working group Alpe Adria Philatelie. A FIP-supported exhibition with FEPA recognition, ALPE-ADRIA gathered all members of this philatelic community, thanks to the organisational efforts of the Unione delle Associazioni e dei Circoli Filatelici e Numismatici del Friuli Venezia Giulia chaired by Francesco Gibertini. The Municipality of Tarvisio graciously made available the spacious Palazzetto dello Sport, and the Slovenian Post and the Slovenian Philatelic Federation kindly supplied most frames for this exhibition, in the framework of the spirit of cooperation which is at the base of the Working group. Despite the many difficulties after Gibertini sadly passed away a few weeks before the event, General Commissioner Gabriele Gastaldo and his team succeeded in setting up a show of high philatelic significance for the variety of subjects treated and the quality of philatelic material.
The exhibits were assessed with friendly and constructive cooperation among the jurors, whose task was eased by those exhibitors who provided the scans of their exhibits in advance. The jury was chaired by Giancarlo Morolli (Italy), President, and composed of Gerald Heschl (Austria), Julije Maras (Croatia), Thomas Höpfner (Germany), Istvàn Glatz (Hungary), Giacomo Bottacchi (Italy), Angelo Teruzzi (Italy), Bojan Bračič (Slovenia), and Giovanni Balimann (Switzerland). Luca Lavagnino, FSFI delegate for exhibitions and juries, supported their work. The Grand Prix, presented by the Federazione fra le Società Filateliche Italiane (FSFI), went to Giovanni Nembrini (Italy) for “The Postal Relationships between the Kingdom of Sardinia/Italy and the Old Italian States members of the Austrian-Italian Postal League”. The Alpe-Adria Philately Prize for the exhibit showing in the best way the spirit and the work of the Alpe-Adria Philatelic Community, presented by the Österreichischer Philatelisten Vereine (VÖPh), was awarded to Pierantonio Viotto, for “Postal Documents Udine’s Province (Friuli 1850-1866)”.

The 22nd edition of the Prix Augusto Massari, a reference for collectors of the musical theme, was hosted in Vasto in the framework of the national exhibition Vastophil 2023. The Prix started 49 years ago at the EFIST 72 in Salsomaggiore Terme; after seven national editions, it became international in 1980. Over four decades, the Prix Massari was previously organised in Belgium (2 times), France (5), Germany (3), the Netherlands (1), San Marino (1) and, of course, Italy (5).
Maestro Augusto Massari, composer and conductor, was a frequent visitor at the headquarters of the Rimini Philatelic Society, led by his son Severino, a signatory of the Golden Roll of Italian Philately. He composed the “Canto del Filatelico” (Song of the Philatelist) on the occasion of Riccione’s International Stamp Fair in 1951 and the “Triumph Hymn” for the Olympic exhibition “Verso Messico 68”.
In Vasto, the exhibits were evaluated by an international jury composed of FIP jurors Koenraad Bracke (Belgium, president) and Damian Läge (Switzerland), FEPA juror Luciano Calenda (Italy) and Italian national jurors Rosario D’Agata and Valeriano Genovese, with the support of Luca Lavagnino, FSFI delegate for exhibitions and juries.
The Prix Augusto Massari 2023 was awarded to Franz Zehenter (Germany) for “Social History of Jazz”, and the second-best award went to Mark Bottu (Belgium) for “Music: talking with God”.
