The 23nd edition of the ‘Augusto Massari’ Prize for music philately took place in Vasto on the occasion of the VASTOPHIL 2024 national exhibition (from 20 to 22 September 2024, at Palazzo d’Avalos, on the initiative of the ‘Nino Piccirilli’ Philatelic Society).
The event is characterised by the “un cuadro più” format, which consists of exhibiting only one frame of each entry (the plan page and the rest chosen by the exhibitor). The full exhibit is available on the website to the jury for the evaluation phase and to the public during the exhibition days and afterwards. The visitors may browse the exhibits using computers available at the exhibition.
The four-member jury was chaired by Koenraad Bracke (Belgium) and included Peter Lang (Germany), Luciano Calenda (Italy) and Marco Occhipinti (Italy). Exhibitors came from Germany (4), Belgium (3), Italy (2), the Netherlands (2) and France (1): http://expo.fsfi.it/PaginaStandard.php?CodiceExpo=PremioMassari23&Ambito=USER&PagSec=partecipazioni_risultati.php&Lingua=IT (palmares and links to pdf files of exhibits). A strong edition this year with the winner Jean-Pierre Suys (BE) “From body sounds to sound bodies” and also large gold for Danny Jimmink (NL) “Step by step to dancing”.
On September 21 at 4 p.m., the first hybrid stamp exhibition for young people will enter the next phase: smart@Ulm will open and then go online. After the opening, the exhibits will be accessible worldwide via the event website https://smart.lrsw.de. The judges will start their work at the same time and evaluate the exhibits only via the Internet presentation, so that the award ceremony can take place punctually during IBB Ulm on October 26 at 12 noon. The exhibits will then remain online until December 31.
A total of 17 exhibits have registered for this event. Among them are seven young first-time exhibitors who are taking part in a philatelic competition for the first time. As smart@Ulm is a hybrid exhibition, 6-12 sheets of each exhibit selected by the exhibitor will be shown at the International Stamp Fair in Ulm. The youth stand will also offer the opportunity to study the exhibits “live” on the Internet using the organisation’s own tablets.
“We are delighted that our project has motivated so many children and young people to turn their collections into exhibits ready for display,” says project manager Anette Hecker-Köhler, looking forward to the opening. “I am sure that this will give exhibiting a future in the future.”
MIDPEX is the biennial exhibition first held in 1995 and attended by stamp collectors from across the UK. It brings together Specialist Societies with local, national and international dealers covering all aspects of Philately. The spacious venue is the same with extensive free parking and a free shuttle bus from Leamington Spa railway station. It provides an opportunity for Specialist Societies to show off their sphere of interest to other collectors, to recruit members and identify common ground with members of other Societies.
It also provides an opportunity for Societies to promote their publications and research projects and for members to meet informally, particularly those members who find it difficult to get to meetings in London. The event in 2025 has again expanded with space for ephemera and post card dealers as well as stamps, thematics and postal history. There is only space for 50 dealers and at least 30 Specialist Societies are expected to support the Show.
