History of the German Stamp Trade
Wolfgang Maassen’s 21st volume in the author’s book series on the history of German philately is dedicated to the German stamp trade from 1885 onwards. The book title is Zur Geschichte des deutschen Briefmarkenhandels, and its subtitle is 75 Jahre Allgemeiner Postwertzeichen-Händler-Verband – APHV.
We read from the publisher’s website: The topic was long overdue, as the author had already, years ago, documented the history of the Association of Philatelic Experts, the Federal Association of German Stamp Auctioneers, and most recently, that of the Federation of German Philatelists. What had been missing was a work dedicated to the stamp trade, now available since the end of 2024. The first 100 pages cover the beginnings of the earliest dealers’ associations from 1885 up to the catastrophe of the Second World War, followed by the arduous steps taken after the war, and then go on to describe the emergence and development of the APHV over approximately 250 more pages, structured around the tenures of the association’s various presidents.
The 368-page book, written in German, in A4 format, full colour, with a hardcover and thread stitching, sells for 40 euros plus p&p. It is available from Phil*Creativ Verlag, Vogelsrather Weg 27, 41366 Schwalmtal, Germany, Tel. +49 (0) 21 63/48 66, e-mail: faktura@philcreativ.de
