Inauguration of the Spanish Post Library
We’ve received this from the Real Academia Hispánica de Filatelia e Historia Postal.
On 15 November, the inauguration ceremony of the new Library of the Spanish Post (Correos) took place at Correos Headquarters, located at Calle Conde de Peñalver 19, Madrid. Previously based in Aravaca until January, the library has now relocated to this new site in the heart of Madrid, where it will continue to serve researchers and scholars.
The event was attended by a large audience, including members of the Real Academia Hispánica de Filatelia e Historia Postal, Académie de Philatélie (France), European Academy of Philately, the Italian Association of Postal History, and FESOFI. The librarian, Ms Carmen Álvarez, opened the event by greeting the attendees and expressing her gratitude for their presence. She then introduced her predecessor, Ms Yolanda Estefanía, who provided an overview of the library’s collections.
Next, Mr Gaspar Martínez, a member of the Real Academia and a former library staff member, took the floor to reflect on the individuals who had led the library through its various phases. The president of the Real Academia, Mr Eduardo Consejo, followed, emphasising the commitment of the institution’s members to studying the library’s holdings and their willingness to collaborate in the future.
The event concluded with remarks from Ms Nuria Lera, Director of Philately and Institutional Relations. Speaking on behalf of Correos, she once again thanked the attendees for their presence and reaffirmed the state company’s dedication to preserving and promoting the valuable materials housed in the library, which are now once again available for consultation.
