Ostropa 2022 is cancelled due to the war in Ukraine
The Organising Committee of Ostropa 2022 issued a long statement on Saturday 26th February, expressing their regret in their decision to cancel Ostropa for a third time.
The reasoning behind the decision was stated loud and clear: “Ultimately, what made us decide to take this painful step was the realization that with the invasion of Russian military units in the Ukraine, the idea on which our exhibition is based, of a Europe of peoples with equal rights, who work together in a friendly manner and solve problems that arise peacefully, can no longer be conveyed credibly. What we are at the moment experiencing is a fundamental change in European relations. Where the development will go cannot be said today. And it is also impossible to foresee how organized philately will position itself within these processes of change in the future. At least we hope that the often-cited ‘force that unites peoples’ will continue to be a universally recognized cornerstone of our hobby.”
