Postal Museum’s Donation to the Finnish Philatelic Federation
The Postimuseo has donated its extensive collection of foreign postage stamps to the Finnish Philatelic Federation. The collection consists of stamp material accumulated through exchanges with the postal administrations of various countries up until the early 2000s, as a result of Finland’s membership in the UPU. The material is arranged by country in collection albums and stock books. Some items are mounted on exhibition pages, while others are sorted as loose stamps in envelopes. Altogether, the material amounts to approximately 80 shelf metres.
The Postal Museum had previously expanded its collections to include foreign philately as well. The materials were donated because they are no longer part of the museum’s current collection policy. The Philatelic Federation has full usage rights to all the material received as a donation.
The Postal Museum offered the donation primarily to the Finnish Philatelic Federation, as it is the umbrella organisation for Finnish philatelic societies, whose main task is to provide services to its member associations. The Federation has gratefully accepted the donation, and the board intends to further support and encourage the activities of the member associations, which the donation helps to enable. The board will present a concrete proposal on the matter at next spring’s general assembly.
