Philatelic Society of Athens (Greece)
The Philatelic Society of Athens was established in 1937, the second oldest still in continuous operation in Greece. In 1942, it published the Society’s official journal, “To Grammatosimo” (“The Stamp”). The Society has also organised several philatelic exhibitions, the most important being one for Philatelic Literature in 1986, three for Youth Philately in 1988, 1992 and 2000 and ERMIS National Philatelic Exhibition in 2017. To date, the Philatelic Society of Athens has organised close to 300 philatelic lectures that have taken place either at the Society’s premises or in other lecture rooms. The Society’s three digital publications on CDs, way ahead of their time (“Advice for a New Philatelist”, “ Large and Small Hermes Heads”, and “The 1890 Postal Map of Greece”), still offer invaluable information to philatelists. In 2017, the Hellenic Post Office issued a commemorative set of six stamps honouring “Personalities of Greek Philately”, which included two former Presidents of the Society.
