Das Neue Sachsenbuch – Teil 3
The New Saxony Book – Lexicon of the Historical Municipalities and Authorities, Part 3: Southwest Saxony is the third of a series written by Steffen Eckert and published by Winterwork. The 864-page book documents Saxon municipalities between 1875 and 2024. Covering South and West Saxony, including the city of Chemnitz and the districts of Erzgebirgskreis, Vogtlandkreis and Zwickau, it provides a systematic record of all communities that were, at any point during this period, administratively independent.
Each entry supplies detailed information on population statistics, incorporation dates, administrative jurisdictions, registry offices, railway connections, postal facilities and historic breweries. In addition, the volume includes heraldic descriptions and illustrations of municipal coats of arms, as well as reproductions of official seals and fiscal marks for approximately eighty per cent of localities.
Introductory sections offer broader contextual studies, including currency changes, police and judicial authorities, postal and railway history, and Saxon brewing. Drawing upon two decades of meticulous research, this work constitutes a valuable resource for historians, archivists and philatelists alike.
