The philatelic movement in Syracuse has always been highly active. Clear evidence of this is the Unione Siciliana Collezionisti (Sicilian Collectors’ Union), which, despite being recently founded, immediately took up the mantle of the previous philatelic association that had ceased operations some time earlier.
Only a few months after its establishment, the Union successfully organised a semi-final of the national philately championship (Cadets Series) in November 2017. Since then, the Union has organised other competitive philatelic exhibitions: the Cadets Championship in 2020 (held virtually), and National One-Frame Exhibitions in 2021, 2024, and 2025, with international participation (the 2025 edition featured the Greek Federation as a special guest).
Furthermore, it has promoted two virtual events, Italia Colleziona, in 2022 and 2025, specifically designed to introduce new philatelists to the world of exhibitions.
The Union actively engages with local authorities and organisations, promoting philately during various events, the most recent being the passing of the Olympic flame. Its strong support for the exhibition world and mentoring activities has fostered the development of several of its members, who have gone on to achieve significant recognition at national exhibitions.
