FEPA Medal for Exceptional Study and Research 2021
Lars Engelbrecht RDP (Denmark)

for Postal Stationery of Denmark – The Bi-Coloured Issue 1871-1905 (2 vols)

The bi-coloured postal stationery of Denmark emerged in a period when “industrialization really took hold”. Companies needed a means for fast and cheap correspondence, and this was achieved with postal cards. The general public used them for exchanging daily news with their relatives and friends. No wonder that the total print of the bi-coloured postal stationeries exceeds 70 million!

This work is based on 40 years of collecting and research. Its purpose is to help a collector to “analyse all aspects of the bi-coloured postal stationery”. It is intended for reference so is elaborately structured; for example, the Contents list 461 chapters and subchapters including Appendices. Vol 1 concentrates on production and varieties while Vol 2 covers usages “including rates, frankings, postal markings, manuscript markings etc.”.

Its comprehensiveness makes it an ideal reference work, pleasing to even the toughest postal stationery expert. Every possible detail of the bi-coloured stationeries is described in text and shown in images. Every single item can be inspected thoroughly.
