Congratulations to the Cercle Philatélique Echternach and the FSPL who succeeded in holding the ’32e Journée Maximaphile & Cartes Postales’ on 24th July in the face of huge problems. First, it was only in early June that the Organisers were able to confirm the exhibition could go ahead following a welcome decrease in the incidence of COVID in Luxembourg, and then on 14th July exceptionally heavy rain caused flooding in Echternach and the conversion of the exhibition hall into a help centre for flood victims. Following high-level consultations, however, the show went ahead with 24 competitive and 13 non-competitive exhibits from several countries in 118 frames.
The prize for best postcard exhibit went to Thomas Wolf for ‘My Life as a Wiener Dog’, and the winner of the best maxi card exhibit was Norbert Maes for his ‘Chronicle of the City of Luxembourg’.
Overall, the visitors and exhibitors were happy to have the opportunity to meet again in person, even under pandemic restrictions, after months of virtual meetings and almost all the souvenir material produced for the event was sold.
Thanks to Lars Böttger for providing this report.
