The HPS Medal Awards Ceremony 2011-2015

 
Back in 1984 the Hellenic Philotelic Society established the honorary distinction of a silver medal in order to honour persons or institutions who have offered distinguished services to Hellenic philately. During the past thirty-two years, the list of the medal recipients has been enhanced by certain individuals as well as by collective bodies. Their long-term activity and overall contribution have left their mark on the Hellenic philatelic framework. The recipients list can be found on the HPS website (hps.gr/en/society_medal.htm).The HPS Medal is awarded each year, but its presentation takes place at a special ceremony every five years.
On Saturday 21 May 2016, we were privileged to attend the HPS Medal Awards Ceremony for the years 2011-2015. The event took place at the “Anthony Tritsis” Amphitheatre of the Culture, Sports and Youth Organization of the Municipality of Athens, in front of a vibrant audience andthe St. Basil’s Choir of Piraeus which performedpopular works of Hadjidakis, Theodorakis and of foreign composers. The newhonourees were:
Nick Cardassilaris (HPS Medal 2011)

–          Long-standing active presence
–          Research and advancement of numerous philatelic subjects
 
Philatelic Society of Piraeus (HPS Medal 2011)
Significant services to Hellenic philately
–          Fifty years of philatelic activity
 
Anthony Virvilis (HPS Medal 2012)
Distinguished services to the Hellenic Philotelic Society:
–          Valuable long-term service
Significant services to Hellenic philately:
–          Philatelic educational activity – Authorship
Significant promotion and spread of the Greek stamp:
–          Representation of Greece to international philatelic fora
 
Theodore Papaeliou (HPS Medal 2012)
Distinguished services to the Hellenic Philotelic Society:
–          Valuable long-term service
Significant services to Hellenic philately:
–          Philatelic educational activity – Authorship
 
John Coundouros (HPS Medal 2013)
Distinguished services to the Hellenic Philotelic Society:
–          Valuable long-term service
Significant promotion and spread of the Greek stamp:
–          Authorship of studies
 
Michalis Tsironis (HPS Medal 2013)
Significant promotion and spread of the Greek stamp:
–          Participation in the Court of Honour of world exhibitions with aGreek collection

–          Distinguished services to the Olympic Philatelic Movement
 
Michalis Petradakis (HPS Medal 2014)
Significant services to Hellenic philately:
–          Distinguished participation at international exhibitions
Significant promotion and spread of the Helladic area postal history:
–          Authorship of studies
 
Wolfgang Bauer (HPS Medal 2015)
Significant promotion and spread of the Greek stamp:
–          Participation in the Championship Class of world exhibitions with Greek collections
 
In his brief greetings and remarks at the closure, the HPS President, Akis Chalvatzidopoulos, asked the audience to join him for a glass of wine at the foyer, and to make sure they mark their calendars to get back in five years’ time in order to celebrate the future honorees.

Jvo Bader, President of the Swiss Federation, resigns with immediate effect

10.06.2016 Due to serious health problems and imperative advice of his doctor, our central Jvo Bader President was forced to resign with immediate effect. For FSPhS and the Central Committee, the resignation comes unexpectedly and at a very inopportune time, just before the next regular meeting of delegates 2016 to be held in less than 6 months in Brig.

In less than two years as central President Jvo Bader managed to restore calm in the Central Committee. However, we have several unfinished business to be completed in our Federation and our Central Committee. This should be supported by his successor.

Until the election of a new Central President November 5, 2016 Brig is Hans Schwarz, member of the Central Committee, who gets the mandate. This because François Bernath, our central vice president, is seen unable to perform this task because of its considerable caseload. The other members of the Central Committee continue to operate in the ordinary course.

The JPS 7-8 / 2016 will provide more information about the new situation in the FSPhS.

Jvo Bader was elected to the Central Committee in 2004 during the Assembly of Delegates of Lucerne. He said the dicastery 4 “Administration FSPhS” created in this time under the new structure of the Federation. Pierre Godat under the Central Committee, he was elected Vice President Central. After the dissolution of the dicastery “FSPhS Administration” at the Assembly of Delegates of Zurzach in 2012, he resumed the dicastery exhibitions, he restructured with great commitment over the next two years. In particular, he made a complete upgrade of the database Phildaba exhibitions and exhibitors.

At the meeting delegates Payerne 2014, he won election as President Central vis-à-vis his running mate Florian Domenjoz. His commitment to our Federation and for stamp collecting was very big, perhaps too big. His health problems now forced to ease off. The Central Committee Jvo thank Bader for his tremendous commitment and extends its best wishes for the future.
