The Motivgruppe Musik, the international Philatelic Music Study Group, has organised the Most Popular Music Stamp of the Year Award since 1980. By awarding the Yehudi Menuhin Trophy to the designer of the year’s most popular music stamp, the Motivgruppe Musik honours one of the stamp designers, representing the many unnamed.
The most popular music stamp of 2024 was the one commemorating ABBA’s 50th anniversary, issued by PostNord in Sweden. It received 7.33% of the votes from stamp collectors around the world. The stamp was designed by Eva Wilsson of Sweden, winner of the 2025 Yehudi Menuhin Trophy.
The Spanish stamp “Cellist of Fene” took second place with 6.41% of the votes. It honours the mural by graffiti artist Sfhir, who won first prize at the Perla Mural Festival in 2023. Third place, with 6.09% of the votes, went to the Norwegian stamp “Bodø – European Capital of Culture 2024”, a work by photographer and designer Kristin Slotterøy.
The Éire Philatelic Association will mark its 75th anniversary with STAMPA 2025, a national exhibition to be held at the Griffith College Conference Centre, South Circular Road, Dublin 8, from 10 to 12 October 2025.
According to the organisers, whether you collect Irish stamps, have an interest in Irish philately, enjoy philately in general, or follow stamp competitions, this is the event for you. Souvenirs and special pictorial covers will be available.
The International Association of Philatelic Journalists (AIJP) has released an eight-page brochure outlining the Heinrich Köhler & AIJP Summit on Philatelic Literature and the Auction of Tomas Bjäringer’s PARIS Library of Philatelic Literature. The four-day event will be held in Wiesbaden, with the Summit taking place on 13–14 November, followed by the auction on 15–16 November.
The summit will feature 20 distinguished speakers, each delivering a 30-minute presentation on topics related to philatelic literature. The presentations will be given in English or German, with translation support available.
On 14 November, following the conclusion of the summit, the AIJP will hold its Annual Congress, which will include the election of the successor of Wolfgang Maassen, who has led the association for the past 20 years.
The auction catalogue—a valuable reference in itself—will include detailed descriptions of 1,300 from Bjäringer’s collection and will be available in late August from Heinrich Köhler.
