Literature at display

There will be two literature exhibitions at HAFNIA 24

Literature has the most important role in bringing knowledge to philatelic collectors. At HAFNIA 24 no less than 60 literature exhibits will be displayed from 50 exhibitors coming from 18 different countries. All literature objects will be exhibited on display in a corner of the exhibition hall. It will be possible for visitors to have a closer look at the exhibited books.

At the same corner of the hall, we have asked Chris King to arrange for a special literature display for HAFNIA 24. The display aims to show some of the earliest material associated with Danish philatelic literature, some of the more unusual items, and publications which have defined their subject, or which represent the best of the literature available. Geographically, the areas covered are Denmark, Greenland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and the Danish West Indies. The display is divided into 3 sections:
1. Philatelic Literature: Material published since 1840 aimed at supporting philatelists and collecting generally.
2. Postal and Commercial literature relating to postal services: Non-philatelic material useful to philatelists, including published matter concerning the postal services, usually contemporary, and what historians would describe as primary sources.
3. Philatelic History: Finally, there is ‘literature’ associated with philatelic history. Exhibition catalogues and documentation including competition results, ephemera such as dinner menus, entry tickets, advertising and other commemorative material. Cinderella ‘stamps’, anniversary and celebratory material relating to events, society membership cards, membership lists, minutes and agendas, statutes, rules and constitutions, printed matter related to annual meetings of clubs and societies etc.

The 7th Altmark Philatelic Exhibition (ABRIA 2025) in Stendal, Germany

The stamp collectors’ society “Stendaler Roland e.V.” will host the 7th Altmark Philatelic Exhibition (ABRIA) in the Hanseatic city of Stendal from 14 to 15 June 2025. The exhibition will celebrate the 500th anniversary of the installation of Stendaler Roland, an eight-metre-high statue, a legendary landmark of Stendal.

All exhibitors-members of the German Philatelic Federation (BDPh) are eligible to participate. Members of other associations belonging to the FIP are free to participate in the exhibition as per exhibition regulations.

On the occasion, special stamps and covers will be issued. The organisers are delighted to invite volunteers, exhibitors, and visitors.

Linn’s Stamp News goes digital only

Linn’s Editor, Jay Bigalke, wrote on the journal’s website that the 26th August issue of Linn’s Stamp News marks the 5,000th issue of the publication, a milestone that took 97 years to achieve. A special article looking back at some of the past issues, notably the first, 1,000th, 2,000th, 3,000th, and 4,000th issues, appears in the 26th August issue.

He added that issue No. 5,000 of Linn’s Stamp News will be the last printed edition. Future issues will be produced in digital format only.

Linn’s Stamp News was first published in 1928 by George Ward Linn (1884–1966).
