Il Lombardo Veneto e i paesi italiani / Relazioni postali 1814–1866
Lorenzo Carra’s commendable work of study and research is expressed through this compendium, which brings together all 36 articles published over some twenty years in Vaccari Magazine, to which have been added chapters concerning San Marino, Trento and Bolzano, Trieste and Gorizia, and 51 articles published in specialist journals in Italy, as well as in 16 international journals such as the Opus and the Post Horn.
Published on 20 November 2025 at Veronafil, it was produced by the firm Vaccari under the auspices of the Italian Academy of Philately and Postal History, with forewords by Thomas Mathà, President of the Academy and President of the AIEP, and Bruno Crevato-Selvaggi, Director of the Institute of Historical Postal Studies “Ado Cecchi”, Prato.
Its 448 colour pages contain approximately 2,000 images (front and back) of postal exchanges between the Austrian Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia and all the ancient Italian states and regions.
In this publication, the fruit of years of study and research by Lorenzo, one can sense the depth of his research, evident not only in the 13-page chronological index but also in the numerous postal documents he presents and describes, complete with explanations of the various routes, tariffs, taxes and postage rates, which paint a picture of the many aspects—including political, economic and social—of the Italian Risorgimento.
This new publication follows, by a year, the one that was in a sense its ‘predecessor’, namely Italia e Iberia, The Post between the States of the Two Peninsulas 1814–1876, published by Unificato, which won a Large Gold medal and Special Prize for research in Birmingham and the Gold Post Horn in Ulm in 2025.
