Ramón Cortés De Haro Elected Honorary Member of the AEP
On 3 December, the European Academy of Philately (AEP) unanimously elected Ramón Cortés de Haro as an Honorary Member.
Born in Seville in 1941, the honouree holds a degree in Chemical Sciences. He served for 40 years as Professor of Technical Chemistry in the Faculty of Sciences and in the Schools of Architecture and Building Engineering.
He has held senior leadership positions both professionally and within philately. He was elected Honorary President of the Seville Philatelic Society and of the Federation of Philatelic Societies of Andalusia, Ceuta, and Melilla (FEFIAN). He served as President of the Hispanic Academy of Philately from 2003 to 2013 and as a Board Member of the Spanish Philatelic Federation (FESOFI). He is a member of the Philatelic Foundation and the AEP, a Fellow of the Royal Philatelic Society London, and the founder and editor of Atalaya Filatélica since 1978. He is also the author of numerous publications, lectures, and articles.
His distinctions include the Pedro Monge Pineda Medal of the Hispanic Association of Philatelic and Numismatic Publishers (AHPFN), the Gold Medal for Philatelic Merit awarded by the Spanish Government, the Edifil Silver Spider, the Andalusian Philatelist of the Year Award, the FESOFI Plaque and Medal, and the Alminar Prize. An accomplished exhibitor, he has won Gold and Large Gold Medals at numerous exhibitions. He has served as an FIP juror for Traditional Philately, Postal History, and Literature, and as President of the Jury at Espamer ’96.
